Newly appointed Executive Chef Dario Bellofiore comes to Florida from Venice, Italy where he worked at some of the city’s most respected dining destinations including Do Forni and La Favorita. Arriving at Quattro just as the South Beach eatery celebrates its tenth anniversary, the chef brings a dazzling array of new dishes to the menu that reflect his love of Florida’s fresh produce and abundant seafood.

The restaurant’s owner, Nicola Siervo of KNR Hospitality Group notes, “After 10 years, business remains solid on Lincoln Road so we decided to renew the lease. We are excited to continue serving fine Italian cuisine on one of the most important streets in Miami to our loyal and cherished customers.” Quattro accommodates 160 guests, with seating for 80 inside a luxurious modern dining room and another 80 guests on an outside patio that overlooks Miami’s Lincoln Road Mall. Distinctly Italian accents of cognac leather and a glittering custom-designed mirrored bar with towering wine refrigerators were fashioned by Studio A Design.

Quattro General Manager Roberto Sanso draws a parallel between Chef Bellofiore’s hometown of Venice and Miami Beach; popular travel destinations surrounded by water and known for an abundance of fresh fish. The chef’s newest dishes include Polipo del Mediterraneo con Farro Legumi Pomodorini – grilled Mediterranean octopus with farro, cherry tomatoes and a lemon dressing; Insalate di Mare – a chilled shrimp, squid, bay scallops, and octopus salad; and the perfect-for-sharing Fritto Misto di Mare – a variety of fried fresh seafood. Many of the restaurant’s most popular menu items are still available in addition to the chef’s Gnocchi alla Sorrentina – handmade gnocchi with buffala mozzarella, fresh tomato sauce and basil and Paccheri con Polpo Pomodorini E Olive Taggiasca – paccheri pasta with Mediterranean octopus, taggiasca olives, and cherry tomatoes.

Nobu Miami Beach https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/nobu-miami-beach/ Thu, 16 Jun 2016 15:57:50 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=2014 [...]]]> Nobu Matsuhisa—like Cher, Madonna and Sting—is such an icon in popular culture, he needs just one name. Nobu has come to symbolize what’s best about Japanese cuisine in America. Miami’s outpost of this popular restaurant group features the Japanese inspired, Latin flavored dishes that have captivated his loyal followers across the country.

Open only for dinner, you must start your meal in the Nobu Lounge where innovations on the tropical infused martini set the stage for a wonderful evening. The omakase, or multi-course chef’s choice menu is the most popular way to dine.

For those less adventurous about raw fish, the black cod with miso and the rock shrimp tempura are the stuff of legend. Service is quick, friendly and helpful should you find yourself puzzled by anything on the menu.

While the dining room feels slightly like the bottom of a very chic swimming pool, have no fear – Nobu is the master of everything that can swim!

Semilla Eatery & Bar is a labor of love for Chef Frederic Joulin who once cooked exclusively for French President Jacques Chirac but now creates modern gastropub fare on the west side of South Beach. The Alton Road restaurant has a cozy industrial design with wood accents, stainless steel finishes and burlap covered tables. Lucky patrons can opt to sit at the gleaming bar which faces Joulin’s open kitchen where he prepares the day’s specials.

The restaurant’s unique focal point is a vertical garden lining the wall of the dining room with 50 terra cotta pots filled with fresh herbs. “The restaurant’s name means seed,” said Chef Joulin. “ We chose this name to elaborate on the fact that each of our freshly prepared menu items is made using primarily organic ingredients.” The seasonally driven menu includes lobster with a mango remoulade, grilled branzino and seared ahi tuna in a ginger miso broth. A glass wine cellar at the back of the house is filled with a carefully curated selection served with dinner and also available at happy hour seven nights a week from 6-8pm. Specially priced beers, appetizers and house wines draw appreciative crowds to the bar and alfresco tables where this celebrated chef crafts his magic.

Miami’s Brickell Financial District definitely provides the perfect clientele for Wolfgang’s Steakhouse where well-dressed titans of industry enjoy USDA Black Angus sirloins, rib-eyes and filets or the restaurant’s signature porterhouse for two which tickles the expense account at nearly $100. Hearty appetites kick off a statesman’s supper with jumbo shrimp cocktail or freshly shucked oysters and big wigs will thrill to a massive three pound lobster.

Executives dip in for the lunchtime beef burger and Wolfgang’s classic steak sandwich paired with fries and golden onion rings. The 270-seat dining room sports hardwood floors, a sparkling wine locker with over 250 labels and an impressive mahogany bar where classic cocktails and flat screen TVs compete with the dazzling Miami River view. Guests who are willing to tear themselves away from sports or the financial news can escape to a breezy dining terrace overlooking the city and the scene. Casa Tua https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/casa-tua/ Tue, 13 May 2014 03:50:33 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=1880 [...]]]> Neatly tucked away in a secluded residential area on James Avenue, Casa Tua presents a fresh approach to dining in Miami Beach. The ground-level dining area has an eighteen-seat communal chef’s table, with a wide-open kitchen area close by, while the second floor contains a five suite boutique hotel.

This intimate Italian restaurant and loft/ lounge feels as cozy and inviting as your own home base, but the perk is having a master chef like Sergio Sigala prepare your meal. With no more than 100 seats for dining guests (including a special table for 18 in the kitchen), Casa Tua is truly a destination of the elite. Reservations aren’t easy to come by and those who manage to land them are real VIPs.

Once dinner has come to a close, guests can make their way to an upstairs loft/lounge that is as welcoming and peaceful as the confines of your own boudoir. Chill music fills the air as guests enjoy an upscale night out on the town away from the hustle and bustle of Washington Avenue and Ocean Drive. While Casa Tua is tucked away on Miami Beach’s James Avenue, it still carries a unique feel of the Italian Tuscany. Oh, and translated, Casa Tua means “your home.”

Executive chef Sergio Sigala and sous-chef Gabriela Bergomi combine their talents to create innovative variations of Italian cuisine in a glamorously unusual setting that has become the talk of the town in Miami Beach.

The Restaurant at The Setai https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/setai-restaurant/ Mon, 12 May 2014 23:17:47 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=2087 [...]]]> The Restaurant at the Setai and the new, somewhat less expensive Grill have a lot to live up to. When Miamians heard this new 5 star “High Roller” hotel would be charging up to $900 a night for a deluxe room, many were surprised the reservations book would get much traffic.

Naturally, we underestimated the appeal of the thoughtfully designed spaces, the carefully crafted cuisine and the upwardly mobile tastes of the clientele. Almost 15,000 square feet of the main floor have been dedicated to David Werly’s haute, East-meets-West cuisine. A team of international chefs from Thailand, China, India and Europe work seamlessly to create a menu that reaches from stone-over pizza to Tasmanian trout.

The main dining room features an exhibition kitchen for those who wish to watch the Olympians craft the “trans-ethnic” dishes. Weather permitting, dine in the romantic sunken garden area surrounded by quiet ponds and tropical blooms. Foodies will swoon for the Wagyu beef and the tandoor-roasted prawns complimented with over 450 wines.

If the pricey entrees prove too daunting, there are plenty of opportunities to sample the kitchen’s craftsmanship at the Grill or the more casual outdoor cafe. Guests impressed with the best can sip champagne and sample caviar and tapas at the spectacular Crustacean Bar or dine alfresco at the 90 foot Mediterranean-style Beach Bar.

Whichever area you choose, take the time to wander through this thoughtfully designed, quintessentially Miami Beach hotel. Things have gotten a lot more glamorous now that the Setai has upped the ante on South Beach Style.

Prime Italian https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/prime-italian/ Mon, 12 May 2014 18:10:44 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=2040 [...]]]> Adding an Italian accent to the sizzling atmosphere of nearby Prime One Twelve is Prime Italian. Portions are oversized and guests may find themselves awed by both the celebrity clientele and the grapefruit sized meatballs (if not the check)! Try not to fill up on the hot buttery garlic loaf presented at the opening of every meal alongside a bowl of delicious marinara sauce. The massive Kobe meatball topped with creamy ricotta cheese sets the stage for updated Italian entrees sized to share unless you’ve just stepped off the basketball court. All of the sizzling steaks that make a night at Prime One Twelve so satisfying are also available here.

Many locals prefer Prime Italian to the sometimes overwhelming Prime One Twelve crowds, finding many of their favorite menu options travel easily from door to door. Take advantage of the best of both worlds by sharing a perfectly grilled steak paired with an Italian favorite.

The top seats in the house are closest to the windows or out on the patio if weather permits. While a lively dining room can be a plus in a town like South Beach, some may find the noise levels closer to the back of the house unpleasant.

Wherever you sit, expect friendly service, delicious smoked meats & cheeses plus menu standouts like toothsome risotto and tender short ribs with house made gnocchi. Fans of family-friendly Italian restaurants may experience sticker shock at the presentation of the check so be warned that a quiet lunch may be a better time to sample the kitchen’s efforts like pizza, sandwiches and that gooey, cheesy bread.

It’s tough to find room for dessert even if you’ve exercised judicious restraint with the menu. The signature sweet at Prime Italian is the deliciously goofy fried Oreo cookie, a lowbrow confection paired with ice cream and sauce that garners plenty of attention. True chocolate lovers should opt instead for the chocolate souffle, an airy masterpiece served with tart black cherries and fresh cream. Best enjoyed with a crowd and easiest to digest if someone else is footing the bill, Prime Italian rolls at the speed of South Beach seven nights a week!

Ola Miami https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/ola-miami/ Mon, 12 May 2014 16:04:52 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=2018 [...]]]> While “Hola!” is the customary “Hello” greeting in South Florida, Douglas Rodriguez’s Ola Restaurant is actually an acronym for its provenance – “Of Latin America.” Likewise, while South Beach restaurants pride themselves on being super-charged with the sexy energy of the city, Ola at the Sanctuary offers a peaceful respite from the caffeinated 24-hour march.

Nestled on a quiet stretch of James Avenue, north of the bright lights of Lincoln Road, Ola features an 80-seat indoor/outdoor patio restaurant and a smaller rooftop dining area that can be reserved for private parties or a romantic dinner-for-two prepared just for you. The vibe is cool and quiet, spa-like and serene.

Executive Chef Horacio Rivadero oversees the production of the restaurant’s signature ceviches and a small-plate tapas style menu in addition to his responsibilities at the Coral Gables Steak & Tapas location. Perhaps the best approach to the menu is to sample a few varieties of raw fish marinated in a lime infusion spiked with chili or cooled with avocado and topped with the traditional crunchy corn nuts favored in Ecuador. If you are not a fan of sushi or sashimi, this may not be your best dining option. Consider instead a culinary happy hour – trying a taste of the bright, tropical small plates and a cocktail at sunset. Entrees from Hudson Valley duck breast to sumptuous crispy pork served with yuca will satisfy the meat eaters in your party. Just remember to leave room for the deconstructed Key Lime Pie afterward.

If you’re looking for a respite from the bright lights of our little city, Ola brings a fresh approach to dining on South Beach. Stop by and say, “Hola!” to the cuisine Of Latin America- it’s well worth the journey to discover something new and delicious.

Katsuya South Beach https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/katsuya/ Sun, 11 May 2014 22:37:02 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=1959 [...]]]> Though South Beach is a city of seemingly limitless access to fresh seafood, it is surprising how few critically-acclaimed sushi restaurants followed the relatively tepid success of Nobu (which opened at the Shore Club ten years ago) and how little locals seem to venture beyond the hybrid Sushi-Thai or Sushi-Chinese standbys that dominate our Asian restaurant scene. All that changed this month when Sam Nazarian’s SLS Hotel South Beach launched the rather splashy Bazaar Restaurant under Star Chef Jose Andres and the first gleaming outpost of Los Angeles sushi show-stopper Katsuya in a breathtaking eatery customized by design guru Philippe Starck.

Sushi Chef Katsuya Uechi blends Japanese flavors for American palates and enjoys star status amongst his Los Angeles celebrity clientele. Opening his first LA restaurant in 1997, the chef sources his seafood globally and divides his menu between cooked and raw composed seafood dishes and premium Kobe beef plates. Popular dishes include Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna, Kobe Tobanyaki and an offering that immediately recalls a Nobu standout – Miso-Marinated Black Cod. Of the celebrated east coast sushi king Nobu, Katsuya diplomatically commented that [Matsuhisa] was “the one who got attention for sushi tastes… he’s great to do that. But since then we’ve changed things little by little.”

His new South Beach restaurant offers a tempting mixture of small plates and sushi, robata and the signature composed rolls that have made Katsuya famous. Foodies can request a $75 tasting menu or a simple $25 prix fixe meal. The dining room provides a stunning black and white backdrop for beautifully presented dishes served under the watchful eye of oversized Geisha graphics. Open Sunday through Wednesday from 6pm-midnight and 1am weekends, Katsuya by Starck promises to be the season’s top spot to see and be seen!

Dining at Bazaar offers tastes from the Old World and the New reinterpreted by a man who hopes to take guests on a sensory adventure.

Diners can start the evening at Bar Centro, a tapas & cocktail lounge featuring innovative libations dreamed up by the chef using fresh herbs, local fruits and seasonal vegetables. The dinner menu at Bazaar includes an Asian-inspired selection of “Singapore Connection” small plates (spring rolls, dumplings, bao) plus “New Generation Nigiri” seafood dishes (Japanese tacos, Cuban Escabeche, Dragon Fruit Ceviche). Andrés playfully incorporates local Latin flavors in his menu creating upscale riffs on Peruvian potatoes, yuca churros and slow-cooked Cuban-style Pollo al Ajillo. Enjoy a mix of cultures and cuisines as you travel around the world without ever leaving the table at this dazzling South Beach restaurant.

NAOE https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/naoe/ Wed, 16 Oct 2013 16:56:27 +0000 http://www.miamirestaurants.info/?p=855 [...]]]> One of Miami’s most remarkable dining experiences, NAOE offers guests a journey through the unique tastes and textures of fine Japanese Omakase dining. The restaurant is a tiny space with minimal decoration and seats just a handful of people who reserve weeks in advance for one of two seatings each night at 6pm or 9:30pm. There are no walk-ins available. Request one of 5 seats at the sushi bar for the opportunity to watch Chef Kevin Corey handcraft each of the main dishes served in a traditional bento box and then a progression of perfectly wrought pieces of sushi that arrive one by one so that guests can appreciate the delicate flavors of every type of fish.

Truly a special occasion restaurant, dinner at NAOE can last up to three hours and starts at $160 per person with an additional charge for sake, sushi and gratuity. The small space is designed to focus attention away from the world and zero in on the meal itself with seafood being the star of each night’s menu. Perhaps the most important element of the NAOE experience is that every person in the room made an extraordinary effort to be there, which makes this an exceptional culinary adventure provided by a truly dedicated team.

The Forge Restaurant & Wine Bar https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/the-forge/ Sun, 22 Sep 2013 18:57:53 +0000 http://www.miamirestaurants.info/?p=419 [...]]]> A South Florida landmark dating back to the roaring 20s, The Forge is a special occasion destination where celebrities, politicians and socialites gather to drink, dance and find romance in the heart of Miami Beach. After updating the dark wood and stained glass paneled interior, host Shareef Malnik has now brought on Chef Julia Doyne to add luster to the traditional steakhouse menu. As Miami’s culinary scene evolves, so too must it’s most stalwart restaurants.

Start your evening at the enomatic wine bar, a fully automated serving system that decants each bottle so that guests can sample a number of fine wines by the glass. Craft a tasting of curated pours from ten stations broken down into full bodied reds, oaky whites, crisp rosés and milder fruit finishes. Pair your drinks with Chef Doyne’s creative tapas and then move on to a selection of steaks, fresh Florida seafood and the chef’s signature pastas. Midway through your meal the attentive waitstaff will ask if you’re feeling like a special soufflé for dessert and of course your answer should be a resounding, “Yes!”

Scarpetta https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/scarpetta/ Wed, 18 Sep 2013 21:33:58 +0000 http://www.miamirestaurantsmagazine.com/?p=363 [...]]]> In planning a multi-million dollar renovation of Miami Beach’s Fontainebleau Resort, top tier restaurants were offered prime real estate at the massive property to provide a Las Vegas style dining experience for hotel guests who can choose from a variety of 5 star destinations without leaving the hotel grounds. Chef Scott Conant’s Scarpetta restaurant specializes in rustic Italian fare and takes it’s name from the crust of bread used to mop up the sauce after a particularly delicious bowl of spaghetti. While the chef is often spotted on Food Network’s culinary game show “Chopped,” his restaurants truly showcase the scope of his culinary skills.

Scarpetta at the Fontainebleau Resort offers breathtaking ocean views and professional and attentive service. Meals start out with that signature crusty bread served with a variety of spreads to enjoy with a glass of wine from the extensive collection. Highlights from the menu include creamy polenta, any of the house-made pastas and some truly decadent desserts. While the music in the dining room might overwhelm more intimate conversation, this is still a perfect spot for date night with someone special or an evening worth sharing with friends.
