Pet friendly rooms are also available at $40 per night for furry companions 20 pounds or less. Pet friendly rooms will come equipped with include a pet bed, a variety of toys, water/food bowls and potty pads.

A cool, climate-controlled space to relax after a day at the beach or pool, this oversized cabana is encased in floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and features a 120” projection screen for movies or video games (including a resident retro Atari gaming system). A mixture of mid-century modern furniture offers a vintage beach house vibe and a sophisticated setting for social activity or sleeping the day away. For those who feel the need to slip away from this South of Fifth sanctuary, the hotel provides complimentary bicycle to explore the many South Beach gems that are just a few pedals away.

Whether setting out for the day or turning in from a Magic City adventure, the hotel offers an impressive Italian-inspired café menu for its guests at The Food Marchand. Creating a second home for many of Miami’s favorite local vendors, The Meridian brings Miami’s favorite born and bred brands to one convenient locale featuring the likes of Wynwood’s Panther Coffee and Zak the Baker within the hotel’s signature café. The Langford Hotel offers 126 guestrooms featuring hand-crafted herringbone patterned oak floors and vintage decor paired with simple, modern amenities. “The difference is in the details,” said The Langford’s General Manager Oscar Suarez.

Originally constructed as the Miami National Bank, the 1925 Beaux Arts structure was designated a historic site in 1989. Local design firm Bloom Miami updated the interiors including the second level Sky Lobby where a coffee bar, lounge and library space give guests a quiet place to mix and mingle. Local restaurateurs from the Pubbelly Group run PB Station Restaurant with Andreas Schreiner, Director of Culinary Operations along with four-time James Beard-nominated chef Jose Mendin and Sergio Navarro.

Taking a cue from their successful South Beach eateries, PB Station features fresh local produce and seafood served in small and large plates crafted by Executive Chef Guillermo Concha. The eatery includes a rooftop bar and lounge called the Pawn Broker showcasing curated cocktails and a panoramic view of the city. “Every aspect of the hotel’s service is of our upmost concern,” said Suarez. “From guest services to food and beverage operations, the hotel’s proceedings will be conducted efficiently, gracefully, and with the touch of style that The Langford promises to deliver to its guests.”

Guest rooms feature complimentary wifi, flat panel televisions, iPod docking stations and luxurious linens. Furnishings draw from a mix of vintage styles to celebrate the storied history of the building which was first developed by Martin Hampton and Emil Ehmann’s design firm in the 1920s. The hotel takes its name from George Langford, the original builder. While most of the interiors have been updated, many original elements remain intact including the lobby ceiling molding, marble embellishments around the elevators, and details on the facade and roofline of the structure that recall its history as a financial institution.

Making the transition from a snowy city to a luxury cruise or gradually emerging from a week of buffets and Bacardis is tough stuff! Until now…

Whether you are coming or going through the City of Miami and find you’ve got some hours to kill in transit, tell the taxi driver to drop you and your Hawaiian shirts off at the Four Seasons Hotel on Brickell Avenue where a $25 day pass admits you to the delicious rooftop pool deck high over the city.

Pamper your travel-weary body on a cozy lounger where you can tan, read magazines and otherwise snooze and schmooze with the lucky patrons of this 5-star resort. If you have a group, a couple of kids or simply want a little alone time, the hotel also features VIP cabana service for just $150 a day.

In partnership with the SportsClub/LA, the Four Seasons features a state-of-the-art fitness facility where you can prepare your winter-weary body for a week in the sun or start on the long road back to physical fitness after all that shipboard snacking. Private spa treatment rooms include a dry redwood sauna, a Turkish steam room, a couple’s suite where partners, mothers and daughters, or friends can enjoy treatments side by side, and a wet treatment area with a Vichy shower.

The full-service Rik-Rak Beauty Salon (305-371-5577) is a favorite of Miami Fashionistas who pop in for a touch up before a light lunch at Pasha’s Mediterranean restaurant next door. The spa is open 9am-9pm weekdays and until 7pm Saturday and Sunday.

For more information or to make a reservation for your day at the Four Seasons, dial 305-381-3190. The four Seasons Hotel is located at 1435 Brickell Avenue in Downtown Miami, just 10 minutes from the Port.

Eden Roc Hotel Miami Beach: A New Tower that Ends the Feud https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/eden-roc-hotel-miami-beach/ Wed, 09 Jan 2008 11:32:00 +0000 http://www.southbeach-usa.com/news/hotels/2008/01/09/eden-roc-hotel-miami-beach/ [...]]]> The Eden Roc Resort in Miami Beach is getting a complete renovation including a new 21-story hotel tower on the southern edge of the property that borders the Fontainebleau hotel. This expansion will bring the Eden Roc Resort to a total of 632 rooms and will rectify one of the most famous architectural feuds in the history of Miami Beach.

Background: Architect Morris Lapidus was commissioned to design the Fontainebleau hotel by hotelier Ben Novack in the mid-1950s. After the Fontainebleau was finished and on its way to becoming the signature destination in Miami Beach, Lapidus was then commissioned by Novack’s former partner Harry Mufson—they had built the Sans Souci together—to construct the Eden Roc hotel right next to the Fontainebleau.

Fontainebleau's "spite wall" on the left and Eden Roc's new tower on right.
Fontainebleau’s “spite wall” on the left and Eden Roc’s new tower on right.

Upon hearing this, Novack swore never to speak to Lapidus again, and as for Mufson, well Novack had a special surprise for him. In 1962 Novack constructed the “spite wall,” a 14-story addition to the Fontainebleau that sat right on the edge of the Eden Roc’s property line. The effect was that the spite wall blocked the sun from the Eden Roc’s pool and cabana area for much of the afternoon.

But it didn’t stop there. The spite wall was constructed so that the hotel rooms it contained faced south toward the Fontainebleau, which meant that the entire back side of the building that faced the Eden Roc was nothing more than a blank concrete wall. Well actually, the spite wall did contain one small group of windows—the windows from Ben Novack’s special suite where he could look down on the Eden Roc and gloat…

As for the current renovation taking place, a minor problem has developed between the hotel’s owners and the City of Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board concerning the balcony railings on the existing hotel shown below.

The current Morris Lapidus-designed railings are solid concrete and don’t allow guests to view the ocean when seated in their rooms. The developer wants to change the railings from their original solid construction to a glass material that would allow full view of the ocean and pool area for guests, yet still retain as much of the original lines of the building as possible.

eden-roc2While it seems obvious that the developer should be allowed to switch to the new guest-friendly railings, the City of Miami Beach holds very strong views concerning preservation of the city’s unique architectural heritage, especially any structure designed by Morris Lapidus.

The Eden Roc’s owners say that the issue is one of economics, as there is currently a $100 per night price differential between rooms which allow a full ocean views and those that don’t. The City says changing the railings would alter the entire character of the building and such a drastic change won’t be approved.

Hopefully, a solution can be found that accomplishes both goals. Additionally, one has to wonder whether or not Lapidus himself would have used the glass material had it been available back in 1956. No one knows for sure, but one thing is for certain, and that is, the Eden Roc hotel is an architectural masterpiece that personifies a shining moment in Miami Beach history—and it should be preserved to the greatest extent possible.

View from the Boardwalk at 44th Street
View from the Boardwalk at 44th Street

Both the Eden Roc Resort and its neighbor the Fontainebleau (which is also being expanded) occupy one of the most pristine stretches of ocean-front that exists in Miami Beach, and once construction is completed on these two great hotels, we predict the mid-beach area between 44th and 46th Streets will once again become the center of attention for glamorous Miami Beach travel just as it was during the “swinging-sixties.”

Sunday Pool Party at the Hotel Victor https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/sunday-pool-party-at-the-hotel-victor/ Sun, 01 Jul 2007 14:49:25 +0000 http://www.southbeach-usa.com/news/hotels/2007/07/01/sunday-pool-party-at-the-hotel-victor/ [...]]]> bikini1Chilling out on Sundays for South Beach’s A-list crowd has been mostly reserved for the beach, private house parties on Hibiscus or Palm Island, or a leisurely day on the boat with friends.

Poolside/Locals, a new soiree taking place at the Hotel Victor on Sundays is giving VIP-types another alternative for summer fun. Swimsuits, shorts, sunglasses, and a laidback wanna-have-fun attitude are the only requirements for the latest in poolside entertainment to hit South Beach. While Versace sunglasses, Gucci sandals, and a Prada beach bag are all a given, the couture is only part of the story. The real center of attraction is the pool.

GabrieL, promoter of the event and CEO of HUSH Entertainment, a local company dedicated to promoting VIP parties in Miami Beach and Los Angeles, offers one clear warning for those attending: “Be careful, you may get thrown into the pool.”

Despite, the possibility of messing up the latest do and winding up soaking wet, the raised and rimless man-made body of blue water has overcome the see-and-be-seen attitude, and allowed locals to drench themselves in the moment.
This was just the atmosphere GabrieL envisioned when he decided get acquainted with daylight hours in his promotion business and start the party. He teamed up with Eastside PR’s Matt Heien and the management at the Victor to make it happen. “I wanted to give my clientele a different ambiance to relax and have fun in,” he said.

Although the hours are new for GabrieL, mixing together the right elements for a great party is nothing new. Over the last 12 years, the native of Caracas, Venezuela has increased his clientele base and branched out in the types of places and parties he promotes.

“The first party I ever threw was the closing party of Penrods, before it became Nikki’s Beach,” said GabrieL. He also had a part in other South Beach nightclub favorites like Warsaw, Dune, and Living Room.
In 2003, GabrieL officially created HUSH Entertainment. The company’s current events include promoting parties at sought after clubs like Snatch, Suite, Mansion, and Rok Bar to name a few. However GabrieL’s main focus is making the new Sunday Poolside/Locals party a success.

So far he’s on the right track. In lining up the venue at the Victor, he is now sharing the limelight with legendary promoters like Michael Capponi, who hosts a Thursday night lounge party at the Victor.
Charlie Irons, director of food and beverage at the Hotel Victor said HUSH Entertainment is a welcome addition. “I think the party is going to be huge,” said Irons. “It’s a perfect day of the week to have the party and we have HUSH to make it great. We are in full support.” he said.

girls3It’s not too hard to get the party juices flowing in place like the Hotel Victor. Its 1930 Parisian-styled décor sets the mood for a good time as locals make their way up to the second level of the hotel.

Those on the list for the exclusive party can head straight to the pool— after the doorman double checks the list for approval. “Anyone can get to the second floor of the Victor, but on Sundays, the pool area is a different,” said GabrieL. The pool area has been specifically set aside for the Poolside/Locals party. The VIP Lounge and Passage Bar remain open for all others. Of course, hotel guests are always invited.
Once inside, its itsy bitsy bikini time. A diverse crowd age 23 to 35 can be seen shaking it poolside to sounds of Hip Hop, R&B and House by DJ Dank.

And for those who need a little more time to recover from the all-too-typical weekend party cycle, the pool’s location atop the second floor offers great views of the ocean and comfy lounge chairs to relax and soak up rays. As the night goes on, the beat of the music picks up the pace, and lots of water-splashing and laughing begins to take place in the pool. The party goes from about 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with 3:30 or 4 p.m. being the ripening hours. There is no cover charge and bottle service is available.

GabrieL said HUSH plans to keep the element of surprise a main theme for the Sunday party. With the start of the NFL season approaching, GabrieL said he hopes to incorporate large screen televisions in the party area so guests can watch the game.

“We’ll keep our guests on their toes,” he said. “We may surprise them with an impromptu poolside fashion show or other creative events.”
