Arriving guests were greeted by showgirls in white shimmering leotards with giant feather headpieces, who guided attendees into the scenic Mediterranean restaurant. Wait staff passed around signature bites by Executive Chef Erwin Mallet while guests enjoyed specialty cocktails at the bar while stopping by the meat carving station. Setting the mood of the evening was a live band comprised of a singer, violinist and saxophonist that interacted with guests, stilt walkers who danced and entertained, ballet dancers escorting Stoli Elit Vodka to tables, and dancers performing for diners at different intervals.

As Miami’s hospitality sphere is always in constant evolution, it’s impressive to see veterans of Villa Azur’s status be highly revered and celebrated when such feats are reached. Upon arrival, EDM megastar Steve Aoki interviewed with Hollywood Hamilton at the Heineken lounge as all bystanders swarmed around to catch his every word. Aoki humbly shared his excitement about once again being able to share the stage with talented artist during his stay in Miami, as well as share his music with fans.

Over at the Boohoo lounge, Armin Van Buuren tried on and loved Boohoo’s MAN cap but made the crowd giggle when he confessed he needed help adjusting it as his head was too big for the standard hat size.

Before going on stage, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano warmed up for their set with some friendly competition at the Boohoo ping pong table, which garnered a crowd of spectators cheering them on.

Arriving through a secret door, Martin Garrix left attendees awestruck as he presented some of the Remix Awards in collaboration with Hollywood.

Over at the Boohoo bungalow, Nervo went on a private tour of the “dream closet”, trying on items of the new spring collection. Similarly, at the men’s grooming area, Cedric Gervais took home a MAN cap, while Cash Cash eyed edgy shirts from the men’s line.

Keeping refreshed with Heineken, iconic DJ David Guetta, electro house artist Hardwell and Swedish star Alesso sipped their beers as they interviewed with Y100’s Frankie P, teasing news about new upcoming tracks and their favorite memories from Ultra. Guetta quipped he couldn’t believe how long he’s been doing music and actually being successful.

Other notable artist present included Audien and 3LAU, who received V-Moda headphones, and Marshmallow and MK who learned about the latest spinning technology from DJ Denon, to name a very few.

Croatian native Marko Gojanovic, 36, joins KNR Hospitality as a managing partner who lists ethics, rationale, and leading by example as the values of his leadership style. An athlete at heart with the prowess of a marketing genius, the outspoken supporter of the Jack Brewer Foundation, Gojanovic has been able to utilize his success to do good, helping rebuild properties in Haiti after a series of natural disasters. Marko Gojanovic is an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, and a class-act in the world of Miami nightlife.

Expanding his role in the partnership is KNR’s Director of Nightlife Navin Chatani. With over 20 years of experience in hospitality business in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Bahamas and Miami, Chatani brings a positive attitude, loyalty, and fairness to the mix, a staple upon which he has built his career.

Sugar’s initial entryway is built upon irregularly cut charcoal quartzite, giving a natural feel to the space as it climbs out of the busy urban landscape below.

At the center of Sugar, a Balinese inspired bar built of reclaimed oak is open on all sides to accommodate 30 hand-carved teak barstools. Surrounded by a deck of Brazilian Teak, the upper level of the space is filled with trees ranging from Buttonwood to Bromeliad. A variety of seating is available for lounging or conversation, from natural wicker club chairs to upholstered ottomans, as well as aged teak sofas and loveseats. Low-lying tables offer space for Asian tapas to share in an ultra-relaxed, abundantly green space.

Sugar’s kitchen has created a concise menu of shared plates perfect for a mid-afternoon snack or to accompany a variety of libations specifically created for the space. Signature dishes include Boneless Korean Chicken Wings with sesame and peanuts; Agadashi Tofu with shiitake dashi and grated daikon; Steamed Prawn and Scallop Dumplings with Hong Kong chili sauce; Tamarind Glazed Beef Satay with fried shallots and palm sugar; and for dessert, Coconut Palm Leaf Crepe with fresh Florida mangoes.

Sugar’s cocktail menu features signature drinks developed specifically for both East, Miami and Sugar. The drink menu is divided into EAST Cocktails, Sugar Cocktails, Beer Cocktails, and Mocktails, as well as wines and local and international craft beers. Highlights from the cocktail menu include the signature Lychee Blossom, with vodka, sake, and lychee; along with the EAST of Miami, with plymouth gin, green tea, ginger, lime; the Sesame Sling, with gin, mango, key lime, and hibiscus; and The Getaway, with plantation pineapple rum, tamarind ginger chutney, ginger beer, lime. Local beers on the menu include selections from J. Wakefield and Wynwood Brewing Company, both out of Wynwood, and also Funky Buddha, a Fort Lauderdale-based craft brewery. A selection of wines is available either by the glass or by the bottle, featuring a diverse selection from Uruguayan Albarino to French Champagne.

Sugar is open seven days a week, with seating to accommodate 31 guests at the bar and 78 diners on the lower deck. No reservations are required, though parties of 20 or more will require advanced notice.

Jazzy Sunday is a more relaxed, more elevated counterpart to the wild Wednesday night scene. It’s the perfect alternative for guests who want to skip the lines, experience Baoli’s garden atmosphere and explore their unique Asian fusion menu on a more low-key night.

In an interview with New York Post’s Page Six, Paciello discussed the movement away from massive megaclubs and his interest in providing a more intimate entertainment experience. Partnering with Mio Danilovic of SBE Nightllife, Paciello boasted that “Rockwell is bringing something different. We are not another megaclub. We are not DJ driven, we are focusing on the experience.”

Rockwell’s Washington Avenue location formerly held clubs Les Bains and Chaos. Slated to hold just 450 guests, the venue was designed by famed Miami-based Interior Designer Francois Frossard (who also crafted the former Arkadia space at the Fontainebleau Resort) to reflect Paciello’s notions of “LA cool, New York music and Miami energy.”

With a focus on hospitality, Rockwell will offer a mixed musical format and feature live performances as well. In many South Beach clubs, the success of any given evening is wholly determined by the DJ booked to perform. Paciello hopes to broaden his new club’s focus to the quality of the venue and the energy and atmosphere of the space. Following a successful career as Vice Presient of Sam Nazarian’s Las Vegas and Los Angeles hospitality brand SBE, Danilovic joins the South Beach nightlife community with hopes to provide South Florida clubgoers a truly unique entertainment option.
