LIV at the Fontainebleau Reveals Dazzling $10 Million Update https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/liv-fontainebleau-reveals-10-million-update/ Fri, 13 Oct 2017 14:15:37 +0000 https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=15829 [...]]]> Competition among Miami Beach’s top nightclubs is both fierce and fabulous now that LIV at the Fontainbleau Resort unveiled the astounding results of a $10 million makeover during an all-star celebrity sneak preview weekend featuring Travis Scott and DJ Skrillex. While the club’s official reopening is scheduled for October 5, Miami Beach’s cutting edge Vegas-style nightspot was filled to capacity in late September as the state of the art lighting system mesmerized crowds with its massive, motor-driven spider descending from the ceiling while confetti filled the air.

The pulsating $3 million spider serves as the centerpiece of LIV’s new look, something Steve Lieberman of SJ Lighting took to heart as he crafted the enormous installation that encompasses the entire dance club dome. With over 400 individual motors controlling every movement, the digital beast virtually radiates across the walls into sparkling LED columns that undulate to the beat of the music or appear to burst into flashes and flames. Individual projection screens throughout the space – crafted by design firm Icrave – add impact to the light show, highlighting the DJ booth, twin staircases and layers of VIP seating.

Formed in 2008, MMG Nightlife currently operates three of South Florida’s most successful entertainment venues including LIV at the Fontainebleau Resort and at Hard Rock Stadium plus the popular SoFi hotspot, STORY Lounge. Mo Garcia, Vice President of Operations for MMG, takes extra pride in LIV’s nine week renovation process, a calculated risk he determined would pay off in rich rewards as the South Beach season moves into high gear. After nine successful years at the top of the nightlife scene, MMG decided it was time to find new ways to make the 18,000 square foot club a 360 degree sensory experience. With clubgoers posting every encounter live on social media, Garcia wanted to be sure every angle of the space makes a lasting impression.

MMG Kingpin David Grutman and his wife welcomed baby daughter Kaia the same week his flagship nightclub roared back to life. With an eye on the future of the nightlife industry, he was determined to craft the kind of entertainment experience that would appeal to the next generation. LIV’s relaunch gains momentum in the coming weeks with appearances by recording artists Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano, Gucci Mane and DJ Khaled, plus Prince Royce and Erick Morillo. Halloweekend events include DJs Politik and Hardwell who will appear October 27 & 28.

LIV at the Fontainebleau Resort, 4441 Collins Avenue opens Thursday through Sunday 11pm – 5am. For reservations, call 305-674-4680 or email VIP@LIVnightclub.com

South Beach Welcomes Jezebel Bar + Kitchen https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/jezebel/ Tue, 15 Aug 2017 19:07:30 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=15780 [...]]]> Nightlife Impresario Chris Paciello and partner Mio Danilovic have transformed the former MOVA Lounge space just off Lincoln Road Mall to Jezebel Kitchen + Bar. Tucked away on a quiet corner of Michigan Avenue, just steps from the popular pedestrian shopping destination, the attractive storefront location serves classic cocktails and late night bites in an old-world speakeasy atmosphere created by acclaimed interior designer François Frossard.

Jezebel

Smaller lounges with carefully curated musical soundtracks are gaining traction in South Florida this season as big room nightclubs give way to more intimate nighttime experiences. The 2,300 square foot venue embraces a retro aesthetic with Venetian columns, moody lighting and vintage leather furnishings. An oversized wooden slab bar is the focal point of the lounge where guests can gather 7 nights a week from 5pm until dawn. Adding to the ambiance, Liquid Hospitality tapped Miami graffiti artist Miguel Paredes to paint edgy street scenes with a New York vibe on perimeter walls.

Jezebel

Paciello is currently involved in South Beach nightspot Rockwell Miami and also opened the first east coast location of the fast casual Mexican eatery Tocaya Organica, a popular chain in Southern California now serving on Lincoln Mall. Jezebel Kitchen + Bar serves signature drinks – shaken, not stirred – like the El Chapo (mezcal, tequila, fresh lime juice, pineapple and chile syrup) to pair with drink-friendly small plates. The all-night menu features sushi and sashimi, truffled popcorn, mini tacos and spicy wings.

With cozy sofas, warm lighting and a trendy urban vibe, Jezebel is the ideal spot for after work drinks with friends, a romantic rendezvous before dinner or even a quick game of chess. The late closing time should also appeal to revelers looking for an out of the way spot to rest weary feet after a night of dancing.

Jezebel Kitchen + Bar. 1625 Michigan Avenue, Miami Beach, FL serves 5pm – 5am

East Launches Sugar, 40th Floor Open-Air Bar https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/east-launches-sugar-40th-floor-open-air-bar/ Tue, 05 Jul 2016 14:43:04 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=11656 [...]]]> Sitting atop the 40th floor of EAST, Miami, the newly-christened flagship hotel of Brickell City Centre, Swire Properties Inc.’s $1.05 billion mixed-use development in the heart of Miami’s Brickell district, Sugar (rooftop bar + garden), adds a new level to nightlife in Miami. Drawing upon the EAST brand’s origins in Hong Kong & China, the Asian-inspired space was designed by Los Angeles-based Studio Collective to represent a lush, verdant Southeast Asian jungle, framed by stunning cement pillars developed by Arquitectonica, BCC’s lead architecture firm. Open both to hotel guests and Miami locals alike, the towering yet intimate space offers a perfect transition from afternoon cocktails to extended evenings under the stars.

Sugar
Sugar

Serving as one of two signature outlets at EAST, Miami, Sugar is more than just a bar. Built upon two levels with hidden nooks and quiet spaces to escape, Studio Collective took an organic approach to the decor. Upon entering, guests will find themselves pulled toward views of Miami from 40 stories up, while passing through a lush corridor of trees. Cocoplum, fragrant Star Jasmine, local Sea Grape, and Japanese Privet surround a central sofa pit perfect for stargazing, or daybeds designed for escaping the din of the nightlife. Sugar’s initial entryway is built upon irregularly cut charcoal quartzite, giving a natural feel to the space as it climbs out of the busy urban landscape below.

At the center of Sugar, a Balinese inspired bar built of reclaimed oak is open on all sides to accommodate 30 hand-carved teak barstools. Surrounded by a deck of Brazilian Teak, the upper level of the space is filled with trees ranging from Buttonwood to Bromeliad. A variety of seating is available for lounging or conversation, from natural wicker club chairs to upholstered ottomans, as well as aged teak sofas and loveseats. Low-lying tables offer space for Asian tapas to share in an ultra-relaxed, abundantly green space.

“With unique views of Biscayne bay and the Miami skyline, it was an easy decision to offer the experience of a rooftop bar and garden to locals and hotel guests alike. Being Hong Kong based, we chose to stick to our roots by creating Asian tapas and cocktails here at Sugar, on the 40th floor.” – Laurent Fraticelli, General Manager of EAST, Miami

Sugar’s kitchen has created a concise menu of shared plates perfect for a mid-afternoon snack or to accompany a variety of libations specifically created for the space. Signature dishes include Boneless Korean Chicken Wings with sesame and peanuts; Agadashi Tofu with shiitake dashi and grated daikon; Steamed Prawn and Scallop Dumplings with Hong Kong chili sauce; Tamarind Glazed Beef Satay with fried shallots and palm sugar; and for dessert, Coconut Palm Leaf Crepe with fresh Florida mangoes.

Sugar’s cocktail menu features signature drinks developed specifically for both East, Miami and Sugar. The drink menu is divided into EAST Cocktails, Sugar Cocktails, Beer Cocktails, and Mocktails, as well as wines and local and international craft beers. Highlights from the cocktail menu include the signature Lychee Blossom, with vodka, sake, and lychee; along with the EAST of Miami, with plymouth gin, green tea, ginger, lime; the Sesame Sling, with gin, mango, key lime, and hibiscus; and The Getaway, with plantation pineapple rum, tamarind ginger chutney, ginger beer, lime. Local beers on the menu include selections from J. Wakefield and Wynwood Brewing Company, both out of Wynwood, and also Funky Buddha, a Fort Lauderdale-based craft brewery. A selection of wines is available either by the glass or by the bottle, featuring a diverse selection from Uruguayan Albarino to French Champagne.

Sugar is open seven days a week, with seating to accommodate 31 guests at the bar and 78 diners on the lower deck. No reservations are required, though parties of 20 or more will require advanced notice.

Nightlife Impresario Chris Paciello Returns With Rockwell https://www.southbeachmagazine.com/rockwell/ Tue, 01 Dec 2015 11:19:44 +0000 http://www.southbeachmagazine.com/?p=10891 [...]]]> South Beach sizzles this season as nightlife impresario Chris Paciello launches Rockwell Nightclub on Washington Avenue in Miami Beach. With the opening timed to coincide with the arrival of global art fans and fashionistas flocking to Miami for Art Basel, the 44 year old Brooklyn native is known to area locals for his 1990s hotspots Risk and Liquid and his on again, off again relationship with a certain pop star called Madonna.

In an interview with New York Post’s Page Six, Paciello discussed the movement away from massive megaclubs and his interest in providing a more intimate entertainment experience. Partnering with Mio Danilovic of SBE Nightllife, Paciello boasted that “Rockwell is bringing something different. We are not another megaclub. We are not DJ driven, we are focusing on the experience.”

Rockwell’s Washington Avenue location formerly held clubs Les Bains and Chaos. Slated to hold just 450 guests, the venue was designed by famed Miami-based Interior Designer Francois Frossard (who also crafted the former Arkadia space at the Fontainebleau Resort) to reflect Paciello’s notions of “LA cool, New York music and Miami energy.”

With a focus on hospitality, Rockwell will offer a mixed musical format and feature live performances as well. In many South Beach clubs, the success of any given evening is wholly determined by the DJ booked to perform. Paciello hopes to broaden his new club’s focus to the quality of the venue and the energy and atmosphere of the space. Following a successful career as Vice Presient of Sam Nazarian’s Las Vegas and Los Angeles hospitality brand SBE, Danilovic joins the South Beach nightlife community with hopes to provide South Florida clubgoers a truly unique entertainment option.

ROCKWELL is located at 743 Washington Avenue on South Beach. More at www.RockwellMiami.com
